Singer and talento Matsuura Aya(松浦亜弥) (25) announced on her official website and blog that she has been diagnosed with endometriosis, a gynecological condition. For the past four years, the condition has occasionally caused Matsuura a lot of pain, which prevented her from doing tours and focusing heavily on her music activities.
Endometriosis is a condition in which cells from the uterine membrane appear in other parts of the reproductive system, causing pain and, in some cases, infertility. In Matsuura’s case, the condition has reportedly caused intense pain at times, making it difficult for her to fully pursue her music career.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of her debut, so she chose to officially reveal her condition in order to raise awareness of it. Although she still suffers from it, she plans to continue her activities as much as possible without pushing herself too hard. Her management agency assured that she will still be acting and recording music, just as she has been doing up until now.
Matsuura is currently a regular host on the NTV show “Meringue no Kimochi(メレンゲの気持ち),” but she will leave the show at the end of September. Some tabloids recently started speculation about a possible end to her career because of her lack of regular work after that, and those rumors may have influenced her decision to go public with her condition.
