Rock band Spitz(スピッツ) announced on Monday that they are suspending four concerts next month due to the mental health of vocalist Kusano Masamune(草野 マサムネ). According to their message, Kusano is currently suffering from acute stress disorder, caused by the recent Tohoku earthquake and tsunami.
Since the massive earthquake on March 11, Kusano has been undergoing excessive mental stress due to the earthquake itself, the constant reports of heavy damage and losses in the affected areas, the serious situation at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, and other effects of the earthquake.
On March 17, he received medical consultation regarding his condition. He was diagnosed as needing about three weeks to recover, but in the meantime Spitz(スピッツ) will be unable to proceed with their tour.
The tour was scheduled to start with concerts in Saitama on March 27 and Fukushima on March 31, but those two shows were already suspended due to the conditions in those areas. Because of Kusano’s stress disorder, the band is also suspending their shows in Tottori (April 3), Yamaguchi (April 5), and Hiroshima (April 7-8). If Kusano’s recovery goes smoothly, Spitz will resume the tour with Tokyo shows on April 13-14.
At the moment, it has not yet been decided whether the suspended shows will be rescheduled for another date or canceled entirely.
