Ichikawa Ebizo(市川海老蔵) rushed to the hospital after he was assaulted

Kabuki actor, Ichikawa Ebizo(市川海老蔵) was assaulted in the early morning of November 25th, and sustained serious facial injuries. His wife, Kobayashi Mao(小林麻央), discovered her husband in this brutalized state and called the police.

According to the Meguro police department, Ebizo’s condition was quite terrible when they saw him, the actor was bleeding from the left eye, chipped his front tooth, had bruises all over his body, and was also bleeding from his face and back. Worst of all, his left cheek bone was also broken. Conscious enough to explain to the authorities what had happened, the actor then told them that he was beaten up while drinking in Roppongi.

Ebizo explained that he went out for drinking with his friends on the night of the 24th, but continued on to a different bar by himself after his friends had gone home for the night. While at the new bar, he met up with some strangers, who then decided to hop to yet another bar with him. It is not yet clear what caused one of the strangers to assault him, but the authorities have begun investigating for further details.

The situation is awkward for Ebizo, since he supposedly cancelled his appearance in a press conference for his stage performance on the 24th, citing a “bad health condition”. This was before the incident had occurred. Ebizo’s father, Ichikawa Danjuro, appears to have disapproved of his son’s decision to bail on his obligations and said that Ebizo needed to take responsibility on this matter.
